Description
How do we teach our kids (whether in our home or in a school/church setting) how to think about God?
How do we not limit them to only what we’ve learned but also allow them to have space to share what the Holy Spirit is teaching them?
In these two sample kids journal pages, I’ve created open ended pages for kids 5-10 to respond to any Bible story that they are learning. I am a big believer that the Holy Spirit will speak to our kids about what our kids need to hear from His word more so than from us.
These two open ended styles of questions allow for the child to reflect and share what God is teaching them.
They do this in three ways:
- They retell what happened in the Bible story (through drawing or writing whatever the child’s ability is)
- They reflect on what they learned about God. So often, we will put the emphasis about a moral application. But really, the Bible is about God so let us train our kids to see what God is doing in the successes and failures of his people.
- They talk to God about what they learned. Maybe God is challenging them to trust him more. Maybe God speaks life and encouragement into their souls. Maybe God is revealing them something that needs to be changed. Maybe they’re confused about something in the story and want to ask God questions. This is the space for the children to talk to God.
We are giving our kids foundational skills to make their faith their own. They are free to ask questions without judgement. They are able to praise God as he reveals himself to them. They are welcomed to learn about our great God and learn to hear the Holy Spirit through his word.
Again, this is a sample product I’m looking for feedback on. This is a limited timed product that will be revised until a future project is completed. You will be emailed a survey and I’m looking for your ideas to make it better!
If you haven’t already heard, there is a kids journaling workshop happening on Tuesday, July 16. You are welcomed to come with your kids!
